PLACES TO STAY IN KAMCHATKA
In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (see
the map)
Compare to the other popular wild destinations in Russia like the lake Baikal region or Ussury taiga,
where tourist infrastructure is well-developed,
up-to-date the city looks pretty abandoned and actually there is no "top end" class hotels.
But there are few hotels in the city, which would be described as "clean and neat".
They are ordered below from the best to the worst. Again it's our opinion, which may differ from another.

The best location, close to the central market, the harbour, the central post office and the local bus station. There are "Aeroflot" office,
conference room, souvenir shop and exchange bureau at the ground flour. 5 stores, recently
renovated 65 rooms (32 singles, 23 doubles, 3 semi-suites, 4 full suites, 1 “president” apartment).
Rooms are equipped with private baths, access to international calls, Russian TV and frige. E-mail service available at
the reception, but not Internet. Laundry service is also available. Double room
is $84 and single $78.

The biggest hotel in P.-K. is certified as a 3 star hotel, but the location is not good. It's situated not in the city center,
20 by taxi from the central market and about 10 minute from the nearest shopping center. The next door bouling center and a good
restourant on the ground floor make this hotel a popular place among business and leasure tourists.
Also from the front it has a great view to Avacha and Koryak volcanoes.
5 stores, 70 rooms (singles, doubles, semi-suites and suites). Rooms are equipped with private baths,
access to international calls, TV including cable and
satellite (CNN, STAR, NHK), frige. There are also sauna, conference room and banquet hall, drug store, laundry. The staff speaks English!
Rooms are $96 for a double and $84 for a single.

The oldest hotel in P-K. it's situated in the historical center of the city, lose to
the City Administration, police office and the museum of Regional Studies. Three store building, 40 rooms (19 singles, 15
doubles, 5 semi-suites, 1 suite). Rooms are equipped with private baths, Russian TV, frige, access to the international calls.
There are also a cafe and a restaurant. Rooms are $96 for double and
$76 for single.

Small hotel (2 store, 16 single and double rooms), located in 15 minutes by taxi from the city center. Restaurant and bar.

A small family hotel (2 store, 12 twin rooms).
Close to the central local market, the Institute of Vulcanology and the central bus station.
There is a restaurant, police office, dentist clinic, air ticket office and small supermarket in the same building.
The staff is very nice and hospitable. Sauna, international phone and e-mail communications, laundry,
hair-dresser are available at the ground floor. Rooms are from $51 to
$74 dor a double and $54 for single.
Family Stay and B&B in the
city
As in many other Russian cities it is possible to share private
apartments. "Wild Russia" has good connections with families of
scientists or fishermen. In these families most of members speak English, so it
would not be a problem with communications. Moreover it would be a good
chance to study Russian traditions. The cost spans from $15 for a room to $50
for a room and depends on the location and conditions.
In Yelizovo
Hotel
“Kamchatskie avialinii”
Address: Yelizovo airport.
Two stores building belongs to a helicopter Company “Kamchatskie avialinii”.
“Spartan” conditions: double rooms, frige and
telephone, dining room, room share facilities. Close to the Yelizovo town (3 km), 18
km from P-K. It is a possible place for overnight, when your flight is delayed.
The Hot Springs Resort “Helios”
Address:Paratunka valley, 26 km from Yelizovo airport and 50 km from
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Twin rooms, two open air swimming pools with natural thermal water and
shower, nice forest around, a café, snack bar. Telephone is available at the reception.
It's a good alternative to hotels in P.-K. as it fits the expectation of people visiting Kamchatka.
Rooms are $80 for double and $40 for single.
“Malkinsky” Hot Springs Resort
Address: Paratunka valley, 26 km from Yelizovo airport and 50 km
from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.The other nice resort is located on the riverbank, barbeque place is available.
Comfortable single and double rooms with TV, video, frige, open
air swimming pool with natural thermal water of different temperature
and shower, nice forest around, a café, snack bar. Home style
cuisine, pool. Telephone is available, long-distance calls are possible.
Rooms are $70 for double and $40 for single.
“Blue Lagoon” Hot Springs Resort
Address: Paratunka river valley, 25 km from
Yelizovo airport and 49 km
from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Two store building constructed by engineers from Iceland. Single and twin
rooms, TV and frige in rooms, big open air swimming pool with
hot water, solarium, jacuzzi and sauna. The nice lake nearby and
forest all around, restaurant, café, snack bar. Telephone and
shower is available. Not good public transport connections (3 km
from the main road). Rooms are $65 for double and $55 for single.
In
Esso
"Eremenko"
Rooms are $50 for double and $30 for single.
"Alena-tour"
Rooms are $35 for double and $20 for single.
Other places
"Rodnikovaya" hot springs lodge.
It's located near Mutnovskiy and gorely volcanoes in a picturesqe gorge. There is a good view
from the lodge to the high waterfall. This place is good for "soft-adventure" travellers
to stay on the way to Mutnovskiy volcano.
"Timonovskaya" hot springs lodge.
It's located at the Timonovskiye Hot Springs. This wooden two storage lodge
has an evelasting hot water supply from the pipe connected to the upper hot springs.
There is a wooden swimming pool, 6 dormitory rooms with two-levelled beds.
The lodge was built by a local helicopter company as a facility for de-lux tourists
while visiting the famous hot springs by helicopter. Also it's possible to get
there on a horse back or by off-road truck.
